Internet before and its growing pains (5/5)

Blog5 - Rosa Groenewegen

The Facebook Cambridge Analytica data scandal shows that groups of people can be influenced by the internet in their decision making processes, such as choosing a president. By using their data, turning it into models, and actively ‘bombarding’ them with certain types of content, it’s like a (new?) kind of propaganda, creating a personalized (illusory?) world for every internet user.
I found the essay, ’Kut school’ from 2006.

Pussy School
Click click click click click. She walks down the hallway to the library. She has her boots and her neat suit on. She considers that this might make her look smart. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help either these days.
The way from her bike to the library; this is probably the most fun part of her day. She listens to her boots again. As she walks, more thoughts shoot through her mind. Her thoughts are about things she feels she still needs to do. It hurts her head. It’s too many thoughts. It’s too many things.
Maybe she should make an appointment with the tutor soon. Actually, the only reason she hasn’t done so yet is the hassle and time she would spend on this. Ooooh fuck school!
Every time the same thing: mavo, havo, college and university. Will she never learn! Has she fallen for it again! She sees no way out and no possibilities. She sees only gray time. Time she puts into something as unimportant as reading books.
Click click click click click. She gets to the bathroom and is able to calm down for a moment. ‘Maybe it’s not so bad at all.’ If she bites the bullet a little longer she can work out those ideas too just like those people from those books. Someone else will then have to read her books. Yes, then she will probably be happy!
Paperwork, scrap paper, garbage! Fuck school!
